Mr. Mutz is an award winning and sought after performer, educator, and Clinician based in South Texas. Mr. Mutz was born in Monterrey, Mexico and grew up in Mission, Texas where he graduated from Sharyland High School and went on to receive his Bachelors of Music Ed. with an emphasis in euphonium at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. While at TAMUK, Mr. Mutz held the position of section leader of the TAMUK Pride of South Texas Javelina marching band, principal euphonium in the tuba-euphonium studio, and princial euphonium in the wind symphony. Currently Mr. Mutz is a masters of music ed and euphonium student at the world renowned Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. His teachers include Dr. Yutaka Kono, Dr. Steven Mead, Professor Mark Kellogg, and Dr. Justin Benavidez.
As a performer Mr. Mutz has performed with the Crossmen drum and bugle corps, the Blue Devils drum and bugle corps, and Jubal drum and bugle corps. He is a 2 time DCI world champion, a 2 time DCI International class champion, a Drum Corps Europe champion, and a DCI solo euphonium champion.
Mr. Mutz has worked with various programs throughout the U.S. and Europe serving as a music clinician, marching consultant, and lesson teacher. His students have gone on to be part of the TMEA All State Bands, performing at the Texas UIL state marching finals, performing in various DCI corps, and going on to major in music.
In his free time he enjoys traveling, watching movies, and sports. Mr Mutz is an avid boxing enthusiast and co-owns a boxing gym in Pflugerville where he trains out of and helps run cardio classes, coach amateur fighters and manage professional boxers. Along with boxing, Mr. Mutz is an active actor having appeared in various commercials, short films, television shows, and major motion pictures including: Whataburger commercials, the movie "Alita Battle Angel" from 20th Century Fox, the movie "Look Both Ways" on Netflix, and the tv show "Walker" on the CW.
